The Falkland Islands Government’s IT department has begun testing a Low Earth Orbit satellite after Executive Council approved a 12 month trial last week. The device being used is a Starlink business class dish and terminal on a Motion service plan previously known as a Maritime licence. This is not subject to needing a country agreement to operate from Starlink which currently the Falklands does not have. Within Falkland’s legislation, Falkland Islands Government is exempt from VSAT licensing requirements under the Communications Ordinance 2017.
