Beacons lit outside of Stanley to Commemorate Queen's Platinum Jubilee

On Thursday 2nd June, over 3,500 beacons were lit across the UK, Overseas Territories and Commonwealth. The Falklands took part in this historic Jubilee by lighting two special beacons.

Beacons are commonly used to celebrate royal events in the UK, such as jubilees and coronations. The beacon lightings were one of the official events of the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 as part of an extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

The lightings aim to symbolise the unity of the United Kingdom, Commonwealth nations and UK overseas territories.
