Queen's Baton Relay reaches Falkland Islands

The Queen’s Baton Relay ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games has reached the Falkland Islands.

Before the Commonwealth Games kick off in Birmingham in July, the Baton is taken to every one of the 72 nations and territories competing in this years games.

When it arrived in the Falkland Islands on June 6th, the baton was met by servicemen and women at Mount Pleasant Complex. It was then taken to Stanley where it arrived at the Public Jetty by boat.

The 15 kilometre tour around town saw 40 different sports clubs and other groups take part in the relay, to recognise the 40th Anniversary of the 1982 conflict.

On day three of the visit, the baton was taken to Fox Bay on West Falkland, where the community carried it around the settlement by bike and by foot before taking it to the social club.
