Self-providing internet services discussed by MLA Spink

Telecoms and self-providing internet services have continued to be under the spotlight this week within the community. Members of the public have vocalised that self-provision should be an accessible option if services by the licence holder are not meeting customer’s needs.

In 2016 Roger Spink wrote a letter to the select committee before being elected as an MLA. He reiterated a statement made by the Chamber of Commerce to the Falkland Islands Government in a 2015 paper: “If a business needs a robust, reliable, balanced, and economical telecommunications system and cannot get that through the existing exclusive licence holder, why should their economic development be constrained by the deficiencies of the available licensed system?”

Now as current portfolio holder for communications regulation MLA Roger Spink still believes that self-provision should be an option.
