Research group, SAERI, have recently started a new project to identify the potential risks that marine invasive and non-native species present for South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
The impacts of marine invasive species vary from damage to food chains, to reducing native biodiversity.
Currently, there are marine invasive species that are established in the Falkland Islands but not in South Georgia.
The government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands have funded the new research in the hope that it will help to inform future policies protecting the cross-territory marine environment.
