Before dissolution, ExCo approved a public consultation on the creation of 7 new nature reserves and the expansion of 4 existing ones. This would bring the number of Nature reserves in the Falklands up to 26.
The additions, covering land owned by FIG and Falklands Conservation, would increase the proportion of nature reserves from 3.9% to 4.2% of the Islands, with 11% now identified as areas of conservation importance.
The consultation will likely occur early in the new year.
