A written summary provided by the candidate outlining their background, experience and priorities.
I have over the years championed many local and International Falkland issues. I have served in the past on the boards of many local organisations and companies. I believe we need a strong local economy that values all workers.
I will continue to work to preserve the nature and beauty of the Islands whilst developing the economy.
Developing and embedding the Environmental Strategy across FIG is a key step in the coming years.
The environmental concerns on Salmon Farming have been well made I am concerned by the potential environmental impacts and possible unintended consequences for our vital Fishing Industry.
Immigration needs to be managed sensitively to ensure it does not cause division and that immigrants are assimilated successfully into our community. A Permanent Residence Permit review as advised by FIG earlier this year should be undertaken early in the new Legislative Assembly following the election.
Infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth. It improves access to basic services, creates jobs and boosts business, creating income for Government and the private sector. By progressing several major projects we have started on the journey to strengthen our infrastructure and improve our environment.
We need to deliver a credible plan to address the chronic housing shortage enabling in particular first time buyers to own their own home and encourage private sector investment.
Promising areas for growth such as Carbon Offsetting, alternative energy and building the Falklands as a gateway need support and engagement by FIG.
Investment in education is a powerful tool boosting growth and increasing prosperity giving our people the skills necessary to take on higher paid jobs that currently are filled by others. Opportunities for Islanders need to be developed across the Islands.
The support of sports in the Islands is essential for health and well being.
Support for families and children is crucial.
Social care and pensions are vital to our elderly and vulnerable more work is needed in this area.
Support for childcare needs to continue.
We need to drive efficiencies and standards in the delivery of services through independent public inspections.
We need to progress the modernisation of the employment protection Ordinance.
The new Assembly will need to consider the work done on the future of telecommunications provision. I continue to believe as I did in 2016 that the freedom of self provision is something that drives innovation and service levels.
A reserves policy that safeguards us against losses in income and ensures we are able to fund future liabilities is essential. The current trajectory of the short term five year plan is unaffordable given current economic factors we need to review the options to reduce capital and operational commitments to ensure we live within our means.
Should Oil Development progress careful consideration should be given to the creation of a sovereign wealth fund and how best to share the benefits fairly across our community.
In 1982 many people sacrificed their lives in order that we could determine our own future whoever you support use your vote.
