Gate of the Year Service Held in Memorial Wood Marking Beginning of 40th Anniversary Commemorations

The Gate of the Year, an ecumenical service, was held last Sunday in Memorial Wood, marking the start of the 40th Anniversary Year of Liberation. The service commemorated all those who died in the 1982 Falklands War, as well as servicemen and women who have given their lives since.

Veterans of the Falklands War and other servicemen attended, as well as the Falkland Islands Military Wives Choir, who sang “We Will Remember Them”, as well as supporting the community choir for the Falklands Hymn.

The names of the British soldiers who fought and died in 1982 were read out, as well as the three civilians who lost their lives in the conflict. Prayers were made in honour of their sacrifice.
