Martech Falklands Ltd, with the help of Ocean Sports Tuition, are holding RYA courses throughout January and February with the aim of keeping boatmen safe while at sea. One of the courses, a one-day Basic Sea Survival course, was held in Stanley Leisure Centre pool last Friday.

Participants went through a series of sea survival drills, which included practicing inflating and swimming in life jackets, and inflating and rescuing crewmembers with a life raft. Later in the day, members of the course also had the chance to practice setting off emergency flares near Surf Bay.
