Second loligo season cancelled

The second loligo fishing season has been cancelled by the Falkland Islands Fisheries Department to ensure the long term sustainability of one of the Falklands most valuable fisheries.

The decision has been made following a routine pre-season survey conducted earlier this year.

The survey showed the lowest pre-season biomass estimate of loligo since 2008, with the lower end falling below the safe stock replenishment threshold of 10,000 tonnes.
