2026 is a special year for South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

It has been 10 years since the UK Blue Belt Programme launched, funding marine protection in overseas territories, and 20 years since the Pharos was chartered as South Georgia’s patrol vessel.

Both have since become symbols of the territory’s environmental work.
