500 Word Summary

A written summary provided by the candidate outlining their background, experience and priorities.

Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated full commitment to my responsibilities, upholding high standards of accountability both for myself and for those with whom I work.

After years of mismanagement, prospective MLAs face challenging choices over the next four years.

Issues for this term:

  1. Telecoms: A New service that is Secure, Affordable and Reliable.
  2. Salmon Farming: Time to Decide on Sea, Land, or no farming; environmental protection is a necessity.
  3. Oil: Strong leadership needed for responsible management and fiscal control.
  4. Major Projects: Power and Port construction projects will remain in the approved project budget; Companies will be held to account and will pay for any overspend.
  5. Tourism & Environment: Our landscapes and wildlife attract global tourists, but we must be mindful that Protecting the environment is vital for not only the present and future visitors but our own future generations. Maintain competitive pricing; prioritize green energy don’t just talk about it.
  6. Industry: Support fishing, farming, and meat production as they boost revenue and jobs. Supporting our private sector businesses is imperative for growth; Reinstating a shipping link with Chile would benefit business.
  7. Education: Continue supporting our superb Education and invest more in apprenticeships and skilled trades to secure opportunities for local youth. It is essential to ensure that our students have jobs to go into and return to. Through planning and effective mentoring of the younger generation, we can secure a future in which they play an integral role.
  8. Immigration: We have lost control, Overhaul current policies to restore effective oversight and reconsider open-door workforce practices.
  9. Workforce: We will conduct a comprehensive wage review at the earliest opportunity to address pay disparities and optimise Local Resident Staff. A reduction on costly contract workers will commence. Funds saved from gratuities, flights, and further education being redirected to support the local workforce. We cannot sustain a £25m FIG Wage bill
  10. Housing – Bidding for land is archaic, price should depend on size. Time to prioritize Local Born First Time buyers otherwise they will never get on the Housing Market. FIG Long-term tenants should be encouraged to buy the property.
  11. Utility Bills – Too High. Starlink/Community Service Charge/ Electricity will be planned for future review and reduction. A detailed assessment comparing the Living Wage and Minimum Wage will take place, aiming to reduce the current gap. There will be no hidden or new taxes. You will keep the money you earn.
  12. Old Age Pensions - Pensions provide support for all, whatever your age. At 65, after years of service, you deserve dignity and financial stability.
  13. Sovereignty - We must remain vigilant, uphold our right to self-determination, and continue exposing Argentina’s aggressive actions to the world

There has been a plethora of errors throughout the last two terms, unchecked spending, poor

financial oversight, and an unwanted Loan; with some MLA’s surprisingly looking to be re-elected.

This Country is in crisis, Time to look ahead, Time for Change.

Top Three Priorities

1. Immigration

2. Housing

3. Utility Bills

Manifesto Excerpt

The first 250 words of the candidate’s manifesto.

My name is Gary Webb, though many know me as Guido, I am seeking nomination as an MLA in the upcoming elections for the Stanley Constituency. In 1984 at the age of 16 I joined the Army, as a Royal Engineer and first arrived in the Islands in 1987, serving a further five voluntary tours in Stanley with EOD. After eleven years of service, I moved to the Islands, worked briefly on North Camp Road, and then spent twenty-two years as a Police Officer serving the community. For the past eight years I have worked for FIMCo where I maintain a commitment to integrity and hard work. I’m independent-minded, not afraid to speak up or make tough decisions, and believe in doing things properly.

Three Major issues will feature in this term –

1. Telecoms – With Sure's Telecoms Licence expiring, the goal is to increase competition.
Sure, are welcome to bid for renewal but must agree to the conditions of lower prices,
end of the £1m government subsidy and exclusivity. Any new provider must keep the
current staff.

2. Salmon Farming – Extensive literature exists on this topic, and interpretation varies
depending on perspective. In my opinion from material available to me I oppose open sea
salmon farming but support land-based tank farming in Camp.

3. Oil – The arrival of the oil industry is expected to bring wealth, jobs, and opportunities. Strong leadership is needed to maintain control

Current Major Projects: Power and Port construction projects must remain within the approved Project…
