Falklands Islands Government pauses Gentoo penguin egging licences

The Environment Committee has voted to pause the distribution of Gentoo penguin egging licences for the coming year. In making the decision, the Committee cited bird flu outbreaks among Falklands colonies and a decline in breeding pair numbers as reasons to halt the collection of eggs. It is not a decision that has pleased everyone though, with the practice of egging featuring heavily in Falkland culture and history.
