The Loligo fishing season has been paused for around two weeks after low levels of squid biomass were recorded in the fishing area.

The Fisheries Department says the temporary halt is a precautionary measure, agreed following discussions with the industry.

Targeted trawling will continue during the pause to gather more information on the distribution of squid and help determine the next steps for the season.
