May the 24th was Queen Victoria’s birthday, and renamed Empire Day after her death in 1901. Here in the Falklands the day is marked by a ball and is held on the Friday closest to Empire Day. Organised by the Scouts and Cubs, this year’s theme was winter wonderland.
