MLA John Birmingham has been taking the Islands’ concerns on unregulated fishing to the Liberal Democrat Party Conference this week.
He joined a panel on the so-called ‘Blue Hole’ — a stretch of the South Atlantic north of the Falklands and 200 miles off the coast of Argentina that has little fisheries oversight.
The discussion focused on the risks of unregulated fishing, the importance of enforcing the new High Seas Treaty and how stronger international cooperation could protect the region’s waters and wildlife.
