Compassionate Flight to Chile Cancelled

The compassionate charter flight between the Falkland Islands and Chile, publicised by the Falkland Islands Government last week, has been cancelled. The news comes after Argentine authorities did not approve the necessary permissions required to operate the flight. The flight was due to travel to Chile from the Falkland Islands on Saturday 19 March and return on Saturday 9 April.

The Falkland Islands Government announced the charter flight with the aim of the flight to passengers  to renew travel or identification documents, visit family members or to manage personal or health issues which have been impacted by Covid-19.

MLA Roger Spink stated: “We are almost stunned by the decision [by the Argentine government] not to allow the flight to take place. It’s inexplicable.” According to the Falkland Islands Government, no reason has been given by the Argentine authorities for cancelling the flight.

If passengers have booked to travel on the flight, they must contact Falkland Islands International Tours and Travel on (+500) 22041 or email charter.itt@horizon.co.fk for details on how to apply for a refund.
