All South Atlantic Medal Holders who served in the 1982 conflict will be recognised with the ‘Freedom of the Falkland Islands’ next year.
The decision has been taken by the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly as a gesture of “sincere and grateful thanks” to those that helped liberate the Islands from Argentine Occupation.
The accolade will be awarded on the Fortieth Anniversary of the conflict next year, where commemorations are set to be focused on a ‘Looking Forward at Forty’ message.
In the show this week, we spoke to two South Atlantic Medal holders about the announcement and their thoughts looking ahead to next year’s anniversary.
